Knitting 101

Introduction to knitting where you'll learn to knit, purl, join new yarn, increase, decrease, bind off, fix common mistakes, read a pattern, understand gauge and the importance of knitting a swatch prior to beginning a project. You'll also learn five ways to cast on and the benefits of each method. Right and left handed knitters welcome.




3 - 90 minute sessions $50.00
Introduction to Crochet

Students will learn the basics of crochet: chain stitch, slip stitch, single, double, and half-double crochet while making a lovely evening bag. Crochet can add a beautiful finish to the edge of a sweater or shell. You don't have to be proficient with knitting to take this class.




2 - 90 minute sessions $45.00
Knitting for Kids (9-13 years of age)

Gather together a minimum of two (2) and a maximum of (4) kids interested in learning to knit and Lillie's Yarns will make the schedule work for you.




Advanced Knitting

Classes in this section are designed to introduce the knitter to other techniques. We're using small projects so that you can become proficient without feeling overwhelmed. A good understanding of knitting basics is all that is required.

Aran Knitting

Originating in the Aran Isles, off the coast of Ireland, Aran knitting is traditionally worked in off-white wool using stitches symbolic of married life and a fisherman's trade. We're knitting a hat so that you have an opportunity to work various Aran motifs.

Entrelac

Learn the basics of entrelac while knitting a small pillow cover. Visit the shop to see the sample on display.

Fair Isle

Learn the basics of Fair Isle while knitting a pair of fingerless gloves.

Intarsia

Intarsia is knitting with different colored yarns to create a scene or pattern against a background of solid color. You'll learn the importance of preparing yarns for your project, joining yarns so no holes appear in your work and reading charts.

Knitting with Beads

We have a great little project to introduce you to knitting with beads. Once you understand the basics you'll be on your way to great projects that incorporate lovely beads.

Lace Knitting

The interest in knitted lace is significant today. You'll become proficient with charts and a variety of stitches.

Modular Knitting

Develop proficiency with short rows while learning to knit various shapes. We're using scarf patterns by Iris Schreier.

Moebius

Knitting in the round with a twist! We're using a free pattern by Cat Bordhi to work a moebius scarf with a lace edge. Visit the shop to see a Moebius sample.

Continental Knitting

If you knit English/American style - carry the yarn in your right hand and “throw” it over the needle and you'd like to try a different method you might be interested in Continental Knitting. Some knitters prefer this method because they feel it's faster and no so stressful on the hands and wrists.

Fixing Mistakes

Repairing our knitting can be as daunting as learning to knit all over again. Learn some simple techniques to fix-it without ripping out and starting over. You'll gain a better understanding of stitch construction.

Gauge Management

Are you disappointed when a garment is too big or too small? Are you having difficulty knitting to gauge? A good lesson on gauge management can resolve a lot of problems. You'll be glad you took this class.

Pattern Study

Reading a pattern is like reading a map. Sometimes it is a very confusing process. Once you understand the multitude of symbols and punctuation used throughout your pattern you'll knit with more confidence.

Seams

Everybody hates seams! There's no need to fear this dreaded part of a garment. In this class you'll learn to sew seams quickly and easily. You'll need to knit 4 mid-size swatches before coming to class.

Sweater Assembly

Do you have a sweater you're afraid to assemble? This class is designed just for you. Learn everything you need to put your sweater together beautifully. Bring a garment that needs to be assembled.

Design Your Own Class

Are you having trouble with something that isn't covered in our class brochure? Is there a technique preventing you from moving forward with your knitting? We might be able to develop a class to meet your needs. These classes cannot be split into half hour segments or shared with a friend.

Try a time treasured lace pattern and make your own family heirloom. Feather and Fan is a good introduction to knitting lace. Visit the shop to see a few samples.

Crochet Granny Square Blanket

The granny square is an oldie but goodie. Everyone loves it. You decide whether to crochet several squares and stitch them together or crochet one large square. Visit the shop to see a sample.

Sally Melville's Baby Albert Coat

Baby Albert is a wonderful garter stitch garment with a contemporary look. It is a great project if you're new to knitting and want to improve your skills in pattern reading and other invaluable techniques. Visit the shop to see the sample. The Knit Stitch Book is a requirement for the class.

Sally Melville's Baby Albert Bunting

Based on the same concept as the Baby Albert Coat the bunting has a nice contemporary look. It is a fabulous project if you're seeking to improve pattern reading skills and other techniques. Visit the shop to see the sample. The Knit Stitch Book is a requirement for the class.

Baby, Tot or Kids Top Down Raglan

Learn to knit a raglan sweater in one piece, without seams, and from the neck down. You'll love it. It's a quick knit for the baby you love! This is a great class for technique building. Visit the shop to see various samples.




Felting

Everyone has tossed a wool sweater into a hot washer and fished out something that was too small for a doll - so why not shrink something on purpose AND have fun doing it.

Felted Clogs

We're using one of Fiber Trends most popular patterns. This is a great class for building various techniques, especially short rows. We have suede slipper soles to go along with your clogs. Visit the shop to see the sample.

Felted Hat

A hat is a wardrobe necessity. Why not knit one, and then felt it. We're using a Fiber Trends pattern with lots of options for shaping. Visit the shop to see various samples.

Ladies Felted Mittens

Here is a lovely project that looks great with your winter coat or a denim jacket. You can knit them with a standard rib cuff, a jazzy fur-like cuff, or combine a felted hand with an unfelt rib cuff. You'll develop many skills in this class. Visit the shop to see samples.

Felted Entrelac Tote

If you're interested in entrelac and felting then this class is for you. We're using a pattern from XRX A Knitter's Dozen Bags for the project. The class is designed for the advanced beginner. Visit the shop to see the sample.

Purses are always popular. A felted purse is sturdy and looks great. We have a variety of patterns and sizes to aide in selecting the right purse for you. Visit the shop to see samples.




Sock School

Successful Sock Knitting for Beginners and Socks on Two Circular Needles are suitable for first time sock knitters. You should understand basic sock construction or possess very good knitting skills if you are considering Baby Cable Rib Socks, Chevron Socks, Ribbed Lace with an Eye of Partridge Heel, or Toe up Socks.

Successful Sock Knitting for Beginners

Learn to knit socks the good old fashion way - on 4 double pointed needles. We're using Successful Sock Knitting for Beginners by Carol LaForet, a local author. You'll learn basic sock construction, pattern reading, and how to manage your double pointed needles. Visit the shop to see samples.

Socks on Two Circular Needles

Two circular needles eliminate the need for DPNs and the frustration of losing stitches off the end of your needles when you aren't looking. You'll be able to use the technique with a variety of projects that would normally be worked on double pointed needles.

Baby Cable Rib Socks

You decide how you want to work this pattern: on DPNs or two circular needles. You'll learn to work baby cables without a cable needle. We're using Sensational Knitted Socks by Charlene Schurch. Visit the shop to see the sample.

Sensational Knitted Socks by Charlene Schurch is full of wonderful sock patterns. In this class we're working our socks from the toe up. You'll knit a lot of great socks for adults, babies, and toddlers.

These classes are designed for the knitter interested in developing skills in a variety of areas. Classes are geared toward the beginner and intermediate knitter. They're adequately spaced so that you have sufficient time to complete your project.

Cable Cardigan/Pullover Sweater

Learn to knit cables while working on this lovely sweater. You decide if you want it to be a cardigan or pullover. We're using a pattern from Yankee Knitter Designs. You'll learn to take measurements, read the pattern, knit a swatch to check your gauge, knit the sweater w/ cables and assemble it. Visit the shop to see a sample.

Design a Sweater

You're the designer. You can make it plain, jazzy, fancy, or a sophisticated classic. Is there a color scheme that is attractive on you? Are you looking for just the right pattern for your husband, boyfriend, or son? Is there something special you have in mind for your mother or daughter? Diagonal Sweater or Vest

Create a masterpiece on the diagonal. You'll be able to incorporate left over novelty yarns and see a unique garment emerge from your knitting needles. We'll assist with yarn/color selection. Visit the shop to see sample.

Pure elegance is the only way to describe this garment. Perfect for summer or under a suit jacket. It is a wonderful project for learning drop stitch motif.

Sally Melville had a great idea when she created the Einstein Coat. It's a garter stitch garment worked in one piece with minimal finishing. This is a great class for first-time sweater knitters. Are you a new knitter? We have a lovely garter stitch poncho that is cozy and attractive. It's fun to knit and easy to stitch together.
